Read on to find out why it might be worthwhile to check them out!
Last Monday, I went to Room to Dream in NorthPark Mall to peruse their amazing collection of baby furniture and nursery decor. While I was there, I spoke to the owners about their newest grandson! They really are the sweetest couple, and graciously allowed me to display my portfolio-building promotion cards in their adorable storefront window.
On Friday I visited Birth Matters in Oklahoma City and interviewed a handful of doulas at their Doula Connection event. I was amazed at how easy it was to talk to the doulas there and I was so touched by the excitement each of them shared over Lydia’s upcoming arrival! What a great group of ladies. Birth Matters also offers prenatal education classes and hosts a new mothers’ support group. I am proud to say Mary Thomas Photography is one of Birth Matters’ official business sponsors; look for me in the listing of newborn photographers in the Birth Matters brochure starting in March 2014!
Saturday I visited The Changing Table and talked Heather’s poor ear off about cloth diapering! After she patiently answered what seemed to be a million of my questions, she walked me through a handout explaining the newborn cloth diaper trial program and the 30-day cloth diaper trial program. She also told me about the new moms event they hold there and handed me a calendar of upcoming events. We even bonded over her wonderful experience delivering at OU Medical Center which is where I’ll be having Lydia (um…barring any unforeseen circumstances :))! I left the store and headed north for my final stop – Green Bambino.
Green Bambino was hosting the Fall Used Cloth Diaper Bazaar AND the Work-from-home-moms Craft Fair! The ladies there are so talented and sold everything from painted nursery art to crocheted newborn hats (you know I have a soft spot for those!) Moms didn’t have to worry about hiring a sitter either. Older children could enjoy the play area while the wee ones hung out in a carrier or wrap with Mom. Look for a similar event in the Spring and make sure to check out the list of classes at Green Bambino; many of their classes, from estate planning to cloth diapering 101, are free.
I’m so thankful for what these businesses do and for their generosity in displaying my portfolio-building promotion cards alongside the other helpful new-parent and expectant-parent material in their storefronts!
Coming up: look for my first shoot with my new studio-lighting set-up the first week of December. I plan on posting some behind-the-scenes shots and photos with my newborn stand-in, Teddy, this week on here and on my Instagram (Marythomasphoto)!
